WELCOME TO WESTFIELD STATE COLLEGE!

Founded in 1839, Westfield State College was the first public co-educational college for teacher preparation in the United States. Today, the College has a total student enrollment of 5,345 students, 56% of which are women and 44% of which are men. 2,554 students reside on campus. The College offers 22 majors, including over 60 concentrations of study. Westfield State has an impressive student to faculty ratio of 21:1, and over 80% of faculty members hold the highest degree in their fields.

Westfield State College is located in a beautiful residential neighborhood on 250 acres in Westfield, MA. The College is conveniently located 10 minutes from the Massachusetts Turnpike (I-90), 10 minutes west of Springfield, MA and 45 minutes from Bradley International Airport. Driving time is approximately 2 hours from Boston, Providence, and Albany and 1 hour from Hartford.

With the Berkshire Mountains rising to the west, the tall pine groves enclosing the campus create a self-contained and comfortable environment. The college’s red brick buildings combined with the courtyards, flower-bordered walkways and shaded park benches suggest the charm of an older campus while providing the comfort and easy access of modern facilities.

Follow the Westfield River and enjoy the views WSC has to offer against a backdrop of grand pine trees on Tekoa Mountain. Westfield State is a short drive to Northampton, the region’s “Harvard Square,” with its charming and unique downtown scene, cafes, nightlife, shopping and restaurants. Across the street from campus, enjoy Stanley Park, with over 180 acres of breathtaking flower gardens, wooded trails, wide open fields, covered pavilions, picnic areas, tennis courts, ponds and a wildlife sanctuary. Stanley Park is not only one of the most relaxing areas for picnicking or taking a quiet stroll, it’s free and open to the public!
